2 years ago, our lives were changed…
Exactly 730 days ago we were sleeping in a hospital room, exhausted from being up all night. Shauna was in the bed and I was on a rolling cot that a nurse brought to us. Every movement, cough, or hiccup seemed to wake us from the little sleep we were trying to get. Shauna went into labor around midnight and just a few hours later, we were introduced to a baby boy, Simon Shane. In that short amount of time, our lives were instantly changed. I began to think about everything differently, like driving for instance. I had never been afraid to drive a vehicle until the day that we took Simon home from the hospital. Nervous, cold, but sweating at the same time, I was a mess. I had to get my family home safe and this changed me.
I went out and bought camping gear, but then I realized that it would be a couple of years before I could actually take this 8 pounder out into the wilderness. I started buying gloves and baseballs, hotwheels and basketballs, but couldn’t use any of it. There is a big part of me that wants my kids to stop growing, to stay the same forever. Conflictingly, I want them to grow up a little so we can go camping and play basketball together. We were finally able to use a hotwheel track. I bought one for Simon for his birthday this year and we have been playing with it alot. We celebrated in Las Cruces with our families over Thanksgiving break. A storm actually came through that afternoon and we lost power for about 90 minutes or so. Most of these were taken without any lights on, just a flash. Here are a few photos that we wanted to share with you.

Being a dad is one of the greatest privileges that I have and I look forward to being with my boys every single day. Joy and happiness can’t really express the indescribable feeling that my family gives to me. They make me joyful, and they bring me happiness, but it’s more than just that.
Today, December 2nd is Simon’s birthday and I am overwhelmed by the blessing that he is to me. Happy Birthday Simon, I love you my buddy.
